Better Human

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 15, 2026

Better Human is a Christian companion app for iPhone. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, how long it is kept and the choices you have. We have tried to write it plainly while being exact about what the app does.

This policy takes effect on October 15, 2026. It covers the Better Human app and our website, betterhuman-app.com.

Who we are

Better Human is made by an independent developer. In this policy, we, us and our mean the developer of Better Human. If you have a question about your privacy, or want to use any of the choices and rights described below, write to support@betterhuman-app.com.

The short version

  • Your journal, Bible notes, church details and much of what you set up stay on your iPhone.
  • When your angel replies, prays with you or writes a reflection, the words it needs are sent to our server and to the AI service that writes the reply. Today that service is DeepSeek, which processes data in China. Nothing is sent for AI replies until you agree, and you can turn this off.
  • Your angel's voice is made by Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. Our server keeps a copy of each spoken line so it isn't made twice.
  • The Prayer Wall is public. What you post there can be seen by other members, along with your first name.
  • There are no ads in Better Human. We don't sell your information or track you across other apps and websites, and the app has no analytics or advertising tools.
  • Apple handles payment, and RevenueCat helps us manage memberships. We never see your card details.

What stays on your iPhone

Most of what you keep in Better Human is saved only on your iPhone.

  • Your journal. Entries and drafts are stored with iPhone data protection, so they can't be read while your iPhone is locked, and you can lock the journal with Face ID or your passcode. An entry leaves your iPhone only if you choose to share it with your angel for a reflection.
  • Your Bible. Highlights, notes, saved verses, memory verses and reading progress.
  • Your church. The church you choose and its service times. To find churches nearby, the app uses your location, with your permission, on your iPhone to search Apple Maps. Your location isn't sent to us.
  • Your profile and family. Your setup answers, your angel's name, voice and look, and your children's profiles, colored pages and game progress.
  • Your conversations and habits. Your conversation history, the notes your angel keeps about you, your prayer list, habits, badges and reminder times. Parts of these are sent when you talk with your angel, as described below.

The Home Screen widget reads today's verse, your angel's name and look, and your habits from storage shared on your iPhone. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. Their text can include your first name or your children's names, which can show on your Lock Screen. Verse cards are added to your photo library only when you ask, and the app can't see your photos. Face ID is handled by iOS, and we never receive your face data. Information on your iPhone may also be included in your iPhone or iCloud backups, which Apple handles under its own terms.

What we collect and why

Your setup answers

When you start, your angel asks for your first name (a nickname is fine), your age, your church tradition, how often you go to church, what brought you here, and whether you have children, with their names and ages. You can choose Prefer not to say for your age and your tradition. These answers are saved on your iPhone so your angel can speak to you personally. Your age never leaves your iPhone. The rest is sent only with the requests described below.

Talking with your angel

When you send a message in Talk, by text or by voice, the app sends our server what your angel needs to reply. That includes your message and the recent conversation, short summaries of past conversations, the notes your angel keeps about what matters to you, your first name and pronouns, your tradition and how often you go to church, what you hoped for, what you're reading, the habits you track, your children's names and ages, a few of your recent prayers, and the region set on your iPhone (so crisis help shows numbers that work where you are). Our server passes this to our AI provider, which writes the reply.

After each reply, your message and the reply are sent once more so your angel can note anything worth remembering. Those notes are saved on your iPhone, where you can read and delete them.

Other features that use AI

  • Asking about a Bible passage. The passage, your question and earlier questions in the same sheet, your first name, pronouns, tradition and region, and a random ID for this installation that we use for a daily limit. Your prayers, family, journal and your angel's notes are never included.
  • Today's reflection. Today's verse, your first name and pronouns, and a few notes from recent conversations and from what your angel remembers.
  • Reading paths. Your first name and pronouns, and your answers from the last few days of the path.
  • Praying with your angel. The words of the prayer request (and, once it's answered, what happened), the passage you were reading, your first name, pronouns and tradition.
  • Journal reflections. Only an entry you choose to share, with its prompt and mood, your first name, pronouns, tradition and region.
  • Stories for your child. When your angel writes a story for one of your children, their name and age and any details you added, such as a favorite animal or something that worries them at night.

Voice

Your angel's words, and the Bible chapters and stories it reads, are sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech to be turned into speech. Your angel's replies can include your first name and things you have shared, so these words can be personal. Your angel says your name aloud only after you agree to AI replies.

To keep the app quick and affordable, our server keeps each audio clip and its words in a voice cache, so the same words are never made twice. These clips aren't linked to your device, your membership or your Prayer Wall name. Your iPhone also keeps audio you choose to listen to, such as a chapter or a story, so it can play again offline. You can turn off spoken replies in Settings so replies aren't read aloud. Anything you choose to listen to is still sent.

When you speak to your angel, your iPhone turns your voice into text with Apple's speech recognition. On iPhones that support it, this happens on the device. On others, Apple processes the audio under its own privacy policy. Only the text reaches us. We never receive or keep recordings of your voice.

The Prayer Wall and gift codes

Opening the Prayer Wall, or using gift codes, registers your iPhone with our server. The app creates a random ID that stays on your iPhone, and our server stores only a scrambled (hashed) form of it, with the first name you use on the wall and the region set on your iPhone. What the Prayer Wall keeps and shows is described below, and gift codes are covered under Membership and payments.

Messages you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and we use them to reply and to help you.

Technical information

When the app connects to our server, the server sees your IP address and basic technical details, such as the time of the request and the app version. We use them to deliver what you asked for, to apply rate limits and to keep the service secure. We don't store IP addresses in our database. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps short-term logs of requests and errors that we use to fix problems. Our own error logs are designed to record what went wrong, not what you wrote.

The app has no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us crash reports and usage statistics under Apple's privacy policy.

Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and similar details to deliver its pages. The website has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use AI

Your angel is an AI companion. Its replies, prayers and reflections, the prayers on the Prayer Wall and the checks on Prayer Wall posts are written by a large language model run by an outside provider. Today that provider is DeepSeek, run by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd., which processes and stores data in the People's Republic of China.

  • Nothing is sent for AI replies until you agree in the app. You can turn AI replies off at any time in Settings › Privacy › AI replies, and your angel can't reply while it's off. The Prayer Wall works separately. Posting there always uses AI to check posts and write prayers.
  • We send only what each feature needs, as listed above. We never send your age, your location, your contacts, or a journal entry you haven't chosen to share.
  • Our server doesn't keep your conversations, prayers or reflections after the reply is sent. The exceptions are spoken lines in our voice cache and anything you post on the Prayer Wall.
  • We don't use your content to train AI models. DeepSeek handles what it receives under its own terms and privacy policy, which don't promise that it won't use that content to improve its services. Google handles the words it turns into speech under its cloud terms.
  • We may switch to or add other AI or voice providers, such as OpenAI or Google. We will update this policy before we send your information to a new provider.

AI can be wrong. Please read what your angel says with care, and don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.

The Prayer Wall

The Prayer Wall is public. Please share only what you're comfortable with everyone seeing.

What other members see. Your requests and notes, with your first name and a colored initial, are visible to everyone on the Prayer Wall. When you pray for a request, the person who shared it can see your first name. Your region and the random ID on your iPhone are never shown to others.

What our server keeps. Your member record (the hashed ID, your wall name and region, when you agreed to the wall's guidelines and when you last used the wall), your requests and notes, which requests you prayed for, the short prayer written for each request, reports you make and reports about your posts, the people you block, and daily counts used for posting limits.

How posts are checked. Before anything appears on the wall, it is checked by automatic filters and by our AI provider. If a post suggests someone may be in danger, it isn't posted or stored, and the app shows ways to get help instead. Each request on the wall gets a short prayer written by our AI provider from the request's words and your first name. Posts that several people report may be hidden until a person reviews them. We keep reports so they can be reviewed, and we don't tell anyone who reported them.

Deleting a request. When you delete a request in the app, it comes off the wall for everyone right away. A copy stays in our database until your Prayer Wall records are deleted, as described below.

Children

Better Human is made for adults. Stories and Play are made for children to enjoy with a parent or guardian, on the parent's iPhone and membership.

  • Child profiles come from you. A parent or guardian adds each child's first name and age, and can add optional details such as a favorite animal or color, a friend or pet, or something that worries them at night. The app doesn't ask children to enter information about themselves.
  • What is sent. Your children's first names and ages are sent with your Talk messages so your angel can mention them. When your angel writes a story for a child, that child's details go with the request. In Catch the Blessings, your angel says the player's first name aloud once you've agreed to AI replies, so that line goes to the voice service and may be kept in our voice cache. Colored pages and game progress stay on your iPhone. A colored page is shared, with your child's name on the card, only if you share it.
  • What we don't do. We don't sell children's information, use it for advertising or build profiles of children. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, or the minimum age where they live, without a parent's consent.
  • Deleting a child's information. To remove a child's profile, open Settings › Family, choose the child and tap Remove. To erase their colored pages, game progress and everything else on your iPhone, use Start over. Our server doesn't keep child profiles. If you'd like us to find and delete voice cache lines that include your child's name, or you believe a child has given us information without your consent (for example, on the Prayer Wall), write to us and we'll delete it.

Membership and payments

Apple processes all payments for Better Human memberships and gifts. We never see your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your membership is active and to manage gift purchases. RevenueCat receives a random app user ID created on your iPhone, your purchase and subscription history (such as the plan, price, dates, renewal status and transaction IDs) and basic device and app information, and handles it for us under its own privacy policy.

If you share or redeem a gift code, our server keeps the code, its status and dates, the member ID for your iPhone and your RevenueCat app user ID. For a gift you buy, we also keep the App Store transaction ID and product, so each purchase makes exactly one code. We use this to give the right person the right time and to prevent abuse.

Who receives your information

We share information only with the services that help us run Better Human, and only for the purposes in this policy.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to prevent fraud and abuse. If Better Human is ever sold or transferred, your information may go to the new owner, who must protect it as this policy describes. We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

How long we keep information

  • On your iPhone. Until you delete it, use Start over or delete the app.
  • AI requests. Our server handles your conversations, prayers, reflections and other AI requests to write the reply and doesn't store them. Our AI provider keeps what it receives under its own policies.
  • Voice cache. Kept until we clear the cache. We don't have a fixed schedule for this yet.
  • Prayer Wall. Kept while the Prayer Wall runs, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. This includes requests you've deleted in the app, as explained above. Records of reports and moderation decisions are kept to keep the wall safe.
  • Gift codes. Kept as long as needed to honor gifts, prevent abuse and keep accurate records.
  • Emails to us. Kept as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of your request.
  • Technical logs. Kept by Cloudflare for a short time.

Your choices and deleting your information

You can open Settings from Me, the button at the top left of each tab. The app's own summary of what each feature sends is in Settings › Privacy › How your data is used.

  • Turn off AI replies in Settings › Privacy › AI replies. Nothing more is sent for AI replies until you turn them back on.
  • See what your angel remembers in Settings › Privacy. Swipe to delete a note, or choose Forget everything to clear the notes and the summaries of past conversations.
  • Clear your conversation in Settings › Privacy › Clear conversation.
  • Turn off spoken replies in Settings › Voice.
  • Delete journal entries one by one, and lock the journal in Settings › Privacy.
  • Manage the Prayer Wall. Delete a request you shared from its page or from Your Prayers, block people and report posts. You can see who you've blocked in Settings › Privacy.
  • Change permissions for notifications, location, the microphone, speech recognition and photos in your iPhone's Settings app.
  • Start over in Settings erases your profile, conversation, your angel's notes, prayers, habits, journal, highlights, children's details, colored pages, game progress and church details from your iPhone, resets the widget, turns off reminders and forgets the Prayer Wall on your iPhone. It doesn't delete requests already shared on the Prayer Wall or gift codes on our server, and it doesn't cancel your membership. Your iPhone keeps its random Prayer Wall ID, so the wall recognizes your iPhone if you come back.
  • Deleting the app removes what it stored on your iPhone, apart from your backups and the random Prayer Wall ID, which iOS may keep in your iPhone's keychain.

Deleting what's on our server. Write to support@betterhuman-app.com and ask us to delete your Prayer Wall and gift records. Because Better Human has no accounts, please tell us the first name you use on the wall and, if you can, the words of one of your requests, so we can find your records. We will delete your member record and what's linked to it, including your requests, notes, prayers, reports, blocks and gift codes. We may keep a small record when we need it to prevent abuse or to meet a legal duty. We'll reply within 30 days.

Security

We take care to protect your information. The app talks to our server only over encrypted connections, and our server reaches its database over encrypted connections. Prayer Wall members are identified by a random ID that we store only in hashed form, the token that lets your iPhone use the wall is kept in the iOS keychain, and access to our moderation tools is restricted. On your iPhone, your information is protected by iOS encryption, and your journal has extra file protection and an optional lock. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your iPhone's passcode to yourself.

International transfers

We and our providers process information in the United States and, for AI features, in the People's Republic of China. Cloudflare's network operates around the world. These countries may not have the same data protection laws as the place where you live. When you agree to AI replies, you ask us to send the words each feature needs to our AI provider in China for that purpose.

Your privacy rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask for a copy. Most of your information lives only on your iPhone, where you can see, change and delete it yourself. For information on our server, write to us. We may need to confirm that a request comes from you, and we won't treat you differently for making one.

United States

Depending on the state you live in (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas or Virginia), you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to access, correct and delete it, to get a copy in a portable format, and to opt out of the sale of personal information, sharing for targeted advertising and certain kinds of profiling. We don't sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising or use it for profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects.

Some information you give us is sensitive under these laws, such as your religious beliefs, health details you mention in prayers or messages, and information about your children. We use it only to provide the features you ask for, and we ask for your consent before sending it for AI replies. You may make a request through an authorized agent where your state allows it. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and if you're not satisfied with the outcome, you can contact your state attorney general.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland

If these laws apply to you, the developer of Better Human is the controller of your personal information. We use it on these legal grounds.

  • To provide Better Human and the features you ask for, under our agreement with you.
  • With your explicit consent, to send your words, which can reveal your religious beliefs or health, to our AI provider. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings. This doesn't affect what was done before you withdrew it.
  • For our legitimate interests in keeping the Prayer Wall safe, preventing abuse of gift codes and keeping our service secure. When you post on the Prayer Wall, you choose to make that post public.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

You have the right to access, correct or delete your information, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability and to withdraw consent. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK. Your information is processed in the United States and China, as described under International transfers.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Better Human uses your information, we'll update this page and its date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
