How Better Human is different
A reader and a companion
YouVersion is built for reading. You choose a version, follow a plan and highlight what speaks to you. Better Human is built around a conversation with your angel, who answers out loud and in text with Scripture and stories from the Bible. You choose its name, one of six voices and a look. Ask for a Bible story and it is told from beginning to end. You could read your plan in YouVersion, then talk it over with your angel.
One translation or thousands
Here YouVersion is far ahead. It offers thousands of versions in more than 2,000 languages. Better Human has one translation, the World English Bible, with all 66 books read aloud, guided reading paths, highlights and notes, and a library that picks up where you left off. If you study across translations or love a particular version, YouVersion is the right tool, and Better Human does not try to replace it.
What Better Human adds to your day
Next to your Bible reading, Better Human adds a few gentle routines. Each morning, your angel reads you a verse, a short reflection and a prayer, and a Home Screen widget shows the day's verse. Small habits for faith, health and relationships are ticked off with one tap. An evening check-in and a look back at your week every Sunday help you notice how you are doing. A private journal stays on your iPhone and can be locked.
For your children
YouVersion also offers the free Bible App for Kids, made with OneHope, which is a lovely place to start. Better Human puts children's content in the same app as yours. It has 31 painted Bible story films with read-along words, each ending with a short prayer, plus a crayon coloring book and the Catch the Blessings game. Each child gets a profile with their own pictures and stages. Read more on our families page.
What it costs to add
YouVersion is free and has no ads. As of October 2026, Better Human costs $9.99 a month, or $79.99 a year with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan, and it has no ads either. You can use the trial to see whether the companion, habits and kids' stories earn a place next to your Bible app. Prices may change. See our pricing page.
